John Edward Schantz, formerly of Northern Pines Rd Wilton, NY passed away peacefully on Christmas morning at Wesley Health Care Center. He was 82 years old. He enjoyed visits to Lake George village, breakfast at The Bread Basket Bakery, and was a passionate auto enthusiast. John’s most-cherished time was spent with his three daughters and their families. He is predeceased by his parents, a stepfather, William Meissner Sr., a sister in law, Judy Schantz, and a brother in law, Bruce Poillon. Survivors include his three daughters, Jodi Carner and her husband Ken of Corinth NY, Jill Norton and her husband Jim of Lake Luzerne NY and Jami Deuel and her husband Ron of Lake Luzerne NY, 2 brothers, Paul Schantz of Canton MI and Bill Meissner and his wife Linda of Troy NY, 5 sisters, Beth Poillon of Clifton Park NY, Carol Crowley and her husband Bill of Clifton Park NY, Sue Duncan and her husband Moe of Troy NY, Gail Schillinger of Troy NY, Anne Whitcher and her husband Terry of Clifton Park NY, 6 grandchildren, Alicia McMahon and her husband Alan, Adam Norton, Christopher Deuel, Michael Deuel, Alisa Deuel, Tigre Lily Carner and great-grandson Bricen McMahon as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. As “Johnny Boy” battled Alzheimer’s over the last few years of his life, the laughter and memories that he created allowed his daughters and their families to cope with the progression of the disease. His daughters would like to thank all of his personal caregivers, Home of the Good Shepherd Memory Care-Saratoga and Wesley for their care and compassion while taking care of their father. Family and friends may call from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 29th. At the Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:00pm at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 30th.
